LightsOut by trezoid LightsOut by trezoid
So, you're browsing through dA and you come across this image by =McRockstar and it looks pretty awesome, but the light colored background distracts from it so much. Don't you just wish you could put the image in a lightbox for a bit, so you can focus on the image?

Well now you can. With the userscript LightsOut, available here you just need to click on the "lights out" button over on the right with all the other buttons, and the image pops out into a lightbox. Just click anywhere on the screen and the lightbox will close.

Awesome? I think so :D

Daily Deviation

LightsOut by =trezoid is a simple but great userscript and easy to install. Many deviations look much better on a dark background without disctractions.

Is it.... really that simple?

It is! That's awesome! Only problem I notice is that it doesn't show up if you are viewing a deviation from your inbox. You have to load the image by itself for the "lights out" button to be there. Still awesome though.

I would sincerely love (and I mean LOVE) to use this. I must ask though, does it work with Google Chrome? My computer seems to utterly hate Firefox and most other browsers. If it does work with Chrome, how do I install it? :o I have never used something like this before, but I REALLY want to use this.

Simply click the install link in the artist's comments, and then the green 'install' button on that page :)

Yes, you have to be at the direct link of the deviation, not in superbrowse (when the url is like #/d123456) ^^;

I featured this as a Daily Feature on #deviantART-Related

It was featured with the following description:
This is a great script for anyone who likes to browse art on dA. Switch the background to black so you can focus on the art a lot better! Works in several browsers, too.

This is the kind a feature that DA should add, I've imagined something with more options for a dynamic background where you can choose the best colour for an image =)

Oh damn, this is awesome!

I had a similar script a while back that did the same (only it let you pick a background color - but the was coded pretty roughly so this works better). My only suggestion would be to let the user scroll still, since some images (this one, for example, with window.innerWidth/Height at 892x1680) don't fit. Or, you could shrink the image to fit inside the window. That's what I did for my script.

But god, this is EXACTLY the type of thing that dA should be adding themselves.

Oh, yeah. I tested on lots of images that were normal photo type resolutions, but I forgot about very tall images. Should be fixed now :D

Ah very cool.

I had a similar script for flickr too, and it's just awesome to be able to block out the background elements and only focus on the image.

Ah yeah I bet. The whole monitor full of NOTHING but art :dummy: Although that's what the sitback thingy is for :slow: But I never use that.

But sitback is far too casual, and besides: that's per gallery, not per image :D
